Stereo Zoom 4

Adjusting the  Baush & Lomb StereoZoom 4 Microscope

What is most often out of adjustment on the SZ4 (Stereo Zoom 4) is the zoom focus: if everything is correct when you are in focus at maximum zoom the scope should stay in focus as you zoom back out.

To accomplish this you'll need a jeweler's screwdriver to loosen the locking screw on the
right eyepiece. This set screw seems to be a very small cross point (which I don't have - I used a regular jewelers screwdriver - be very careful not to strip the screw head ).

  1. Loosen the Right eyepiece locking screw
    EyePiece lock screw
  2. Cover the left eyepiece so you will only look with the right eyepiece
  3. Focus on sample at highest magnification
  4. Turn zooming knob to lowest magnification.
  5. With out turning focus wheel try to get sample in focus by only turning the right eyepiece. (If sample will not come in focus by this method the internal optics of scope will have to be adjusted. (if you have info on this please send it along).
  6. Go to step 3 and repeat until no improvement.
  7. Tighten the left eyepiece locking screw and test that the zoom  stays in focus.
  8. Now focus again and uncover the left eyepiece and cover the right one.
  9. Adjust the Left eyepiece for best focus.
The only other adjustments (interocular distance, focus) are self evident.
Know where one might find a service manual? There are a couple of clips on the sides - I don't know their use? If you do email me at the address below.
