Large Display Process Meters with flow rate, totalizer and batch control capabilities. Each accepts the common process signals such as 4-20 mA, 0-5 VDC, 1-5 VDC and 0-10 VDC and displays these signals in engineering units on a large, high efficiency, 41 D2 digit red LED display. All units also provide two isolated 24V power supplies to drive both the input and output loops. Options include up to 4 relays for alarms or batch controlling, as well as an isolated 4-20 mA transmitter output.

The PD650 is housed in a heavy-duty die-cast aluminum NEMA 4X enclosure. This enclosure can be easily wall-mounted or panel-mounted and features four pre-drilled conduit connections for easy installation.

The PD655 is housed in a rugged, impact-resistant glass-filled polycarbonate, NEMA 4X enclosure. This enclosure has four holes for wall-mounting and a panel mounting kit is available.

The PD656 is housed in a rugged, explosion-proof NEMA 4 sand-cast aluminum enclosure. Additionally, the PD656 has two magnetic reed switches located above the ENTER and ACK buttons. The reed switches allow the user to program and operate the meter without having to remove the enclosure cover.
The explosion-proof control stations can be used to control the PD656 while in operation in a hazardous area. Control stations may be ordered with one, two or three push buttons. The buttons can be labeled ENTER, ACK and RESET. External connections are available at J1 connector on the main PCB.
The large, bright, high efficiency red LED display of these new Large Display Process Meters is designed to make it easy to read these displays from far away in a dimly lit process plant.
The PD650’s 2.3" high display, PD655’s 1.0" high display and PD656’s 0.8" high display are expanded 41 D2 digit plus selectable extra zero displays, excellent for displaying large numbers in easy-to-read formats. Most 41 D2 digit meters display process/rate only to 19,999. These large, bright displays provide an expanded process/rate range to handle numbers to 29,999; and to 299,990 with the extra zero.
Each meter also has a full six digit display for displaying total from 0 to 999,999. Additionally an operator can easily toggle back and forth between rate and total, automatically or manually. When the meter is displaying rate a green LED ® illuminates to indicate rate function.
The PD650, PD655 and PD656 are ideal for loops that consist of a transmitter, a digital panel meter and a DCS or computer because they can provide isolated power to drive both the input and output loops.
This standard feature saves time and money by simplifying wiring and eliminating the cost of an external power supply. In addition, the isolated power supply can be used to power 3 and 4 wire transducers with either current or voltage output.
The PD650, PD655 and PD656 accept both voltage and current inputs and can be scaled for virtually any engineering units.
In addition, the units feature automatic linearization for square root, three-halves and five-halves power functions for direct readout of flow from DP transmitters, weirs and flumes.
The user can also select a low-flow cutoff point so the meters always display zero below this point. For other non-linear applications, the PD650, PD655 and PD656 provide up to 11 custom calibration points.
The peak hold feature captures the highest displayed value and stores it in memory for later viewing. Push ENTER when meter reads dSPy P. A green LED labeled "R" will flash indicating the display is showing the peak value. To erase the current peak value press ENTER when meter reads rSEt P and a new peak value will be captured.
Each unit can be programmed so certain menu titles do not appear during the normal menu scan sequence and so operators are "locked out" from making changes to the way the meter was programmed. For instance, if the PD650 was to be used as a temperature display, the user may want to disable all the menu titles relating to the totalization feature. Or the user may want to restrict the ability to change programming values like calibration points, relay set points and 4-20 mA output set points.
Each unit is supplied with all the features and functions needed to perform flow totalizing and simple automatic or manual batching. Totalizing features include a full 6 digit display, programmable time base of second, minute, hour and day; user programmable totalizer conversion factor and automatic or manual alternating rate/total display. Batching features include preset value tracking, priority batch programming, relay delay and multiple totalizer reset capabilities. Combine these features with the general capabilities of easy scaling in any engineering units, powering the transmitter, low-flow cutoff, and handling non-linear flow signals and you’ve got one of the most powerful flow totalizer/batch controllers on the market.
The Totalizer Conversion Factor is a number which is multiplied by the rate to compute the total. This factor can be any number between .59999 and 59999. For example, if the rate display is gallons per hour and total is desired in barrels, (1 gallon = .02381 barrels) a total conversion factor of .02381 should be used. If the rate display is gallons per hour and total is desired in gallons, a factor of 1 should be used.
Rate can be displayed in any engineering units per second, minute, hour or day.
The Totalizer can be programmed so the display automatically changes between displaying rate and total every 10 seconds. This function is particularly useful if the unit is mounted out of reach, high on a wall.
The relay capabilities of the these meters expand their usefulness beyond simple indication to provide users with alarming and controlling functions. These capabilities include front panel alarm status LEDs and 2 or 4 optional relays. Any relay can be assigned to either total or process/rate. Typical applications include high or low temperature, level, pressure or flow alarms, simple control applications like sump-pump or tank-filling and automatic or manual batch controlling.

Rate/Totalizer/Batch Controller Features
RATE DISPLAY INDICATION: LED labeled "R" in lower right
illuminates when meter is displaying rate, (or process input).
LOW FLOW CUTOFF: Any input below the low flow cutoff value will result in
a display of zero. May be set from 1 count to 100% F.S., user selectable. To
disable low flow cutoff, program cutoff value to zero. Totalizer is based on
rate display. So, inputs below the low flow cutoff value will not affect the
totalizer.
ALTERNATING DISPLAY: Display may be programmed to alternate between rate
and total every 10 seconds.
TOTAL DISPLAY: 0 to 999,999, automatic lead zero blanking.
TOTAL DECIMAL POINT: May be set in any of the following positions:
9.99999, 99.9999, 999.999, 9999.99, 99999.9. Total decimal point is independent
of process/rate decimal point.
TOTALIZER: Calculates total based on rate and field programmable
multiplier to display total in any engineering unit.
TOTALIZER ROLLOVER: Totalizer "rolls over" when display exceeds
999,999. Relay status reflects display.
TOTALIZER PRESETS: Up to four, user selectable under Setup. Any set point
can be assigned to total and may be programmed anywhere in the range of the
meter. Relays assigned to total trip when total reaches the preset value and
reset when total is reset to zero or when acknowledged manually. can be
programmed so when the highest preset value is reached the total automatically
resets to zero. In addition, a programmable delay on release of between 1 and
999 seconds can be programmed to reset the total relays after the delay has
elapsed.
PRESET OFFSET: Relays that are assigned to total can be programmed to
trip at any point below the next relay’s preset value. If preset offset mode
is selected the corresponding relay will always trip at a programmed offset
value before the next relay trips.
Example: Set Point 1 and 2 are setup for total, with Offset selected (under Set
Point 2). If the preset offset is set at 10, (during Set Points programming for
Set Point 1), then relay 1 will trip 10 counts before relay 2.
PROGRAMMABLE DELAY ON RELEASE: If the meter is programmed to reset total
to zero automatically when the highest preset is reached, then a delay will
occur before the total relays reset. This delay can be programmed anywhere
between 1 and 999 seconds.
PRIORITY BATCH PROGRAMMING: This feature allows the user to quickly
change preset values without going into the main menu by holding the ENTER
button for more than 3 seconds.
TOTAL RESET: Via front panel ENTER button, external contact closure, or
automatically via user selectable preset value.
TOTAL RESET LOCKOUT: Meter may be programmed so Total can not be reset
from front panel.
RATING: 2 or 4 SPDT (form C); rated 2 Amp @ 30 VDC or 2 Amp @ 250 VAC
resistive load; 1/14 HP @ 125 / 250 VAC for inductive loads. Built-in
suppression.
ASSIGN TO PROCESS/RATE OR TOTAL: Any relay may be assigned to
process/rate or total.
BUILT-IN SUPPRESSION: Each relay contact is protected by a built-in
suppressor (snubber) to prolong the life of the relays and provide a degree of
protection against electrical noise caused by inductive loads. Suppressors
value, .01 uF/470 ohms, 250 VAC.
DEADBAND: 0-100% of full scale, user selectable.
HIGH OR LOW ALARM: User may program any alarm for a high or low trip
point.
RELAY OPERATION: Latching or non-latching.
FAIL-SAFE OPERATION: Relay coils are energized in non-alarm condition. In
case of power failure, relays will go to alarm state. Fail-safe operation may be
disabled, by removing jumper J5 located on the Options PCB.
AUTO INITIALIZATION:When power is applied, relays assigned to total will
reflect the state of the accumulated Total value in memory. Relays assigned to
process/rate will reflect the state of the input to the meter.
Total relays reset:
Process/rate relays reset:
Relays assigned to process/rate may be programmed to reset in any of the following ways:
CALIBRATION RANGE: The transmitter output can be calibrated so that a
4 mA output is produced for any process/rate measured by the meter. The 20 mA
output may correspond to any process/rate that is at least 501 counts greater or
smaller than the process/rate corresponding to 4 mA. (Ex. 4 mA = 0, 20 mA = 501)
If the span between 4 and 20 mA is less than 501 counts, an error message will
appear.
EQUIPMENT NEEDED: The 4-20 mA output is calibrated without the use of a
calibrator.
OUTPUT LOOP-POWER: 24 VDC ± 5% @ 20 mA, regulated. Maximum loop
resistance is 1200 ohm. Isolated from input loop-power.
ACCURACY: ± 0.1% F.S., ± 0.004 mA.
ISOLATION: 500 VDC or peak AC, input-to-output or input/output-to-power
line.
EXTERNAL LOOP-POWER SUPPLY: 35 VDC max.
OUTPUT LOOP RESISTANCE:
| Power supply | Minimum loop resistance | Maximum loop resistance |
|---|---|---|
| 24 VDC | 10 ohms | 600 ohms |
| 35 VDC (external) | 600 ohms | 1000 ohms |
